Segment your home network so IoT devices can't reach everything else

A cheap smart bulb, camera, or plug with weak security shouldn't be able to reach your laptop or phone just because they share the same Wi-Fi network. Most home routers support a guest network or VLANs — put smart-home and IoT devices on their own isolated network, separate from the devices that actually hold your sensitive data.
