Switch to a privacy-respecting, encrypted DNS resolver
#Technology 📅 Year-round
Even with HTTPS everywhere, the DNS lookup that turns a domain name into an address is, by default, often unencrypted and sent straight to your ISP — which can see, and in some cases log or sell, a list of every site you visit, regardless of how private the actual page content is. Switching your device or router to a resolver that supports DNS-over-HTTPS or DNS-over-TLS, from a provider with a real published privacy policy, closes that specific gap. It's a one-time setting change, not an ongoing habit — the kind of thing that's easy to do once and then forget it's protecting you.
