A dead battery is a much smaller problem than a dead battery plus a charger that turns out not to work either — cheap cables fail quietly, and a charger left untouched in a drawer for a year is not a guarantee. Keep a spare charger and cable for your critical devices, and actually plug them in and test them occasionally instead of just assuming they'll be there when you need them.
