Backups solve getting your files back — they don't solve the more immediate problem of needing to pay a bill, receive a work email, or approve a two-factor login on the same day your only device dies. Know in advance which of your accounts you could realistically reach from a borrowed phone or a public library computer, and which ones (authenticator apps tied to one device, passkeys stored only locally) would genuinely lock you out until the original device — or its backup — is back. That gap is worth knowing before it's the middle of an actual emergency.
