Check that your home insurance actually covers wildfire damage

In wildfire-prone areas, "fire coverage" on a standard policy isn't automatically the same as wildfire coverage — some insurers cap payouts, add specific exclusions, or simply decline to renew a policy after a nearby fire, sometimes before you've made a single claim. Ask your insurer specifically about wildfire, not just generic fire damage, and do it this season, not the week after evacuation orders are already out for your area.
