Do a quick home-hardening pass before you evacuate

Most homes lost to wildfire catch from wind-blown embers landing on or near the house, not from a wall of flame reaching it directly. Before you leave, if there's time: close all windows and doors, shut off gas at the tank if you have propane, move patio furniture and doormats away from exterior walls, and leave interior lights on so the house is visible through smoke. None of it takes long, and it meaningfully cuts down what embers have to work with while you're gone.
